Art: England

I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, since I didn't really know what I thought England looked like 4 realz before I started it.

But goddamn, England. Haircut. I'm serious.
Headcanon: France broke England's nose in three places at the Battle of Castillon (which took place not too long after England had burned his girlfriend at the stake). The French victory at Castillon ended the Hundred Years War, threw the English off the European continent, and ended English territorial ambitions on the continent forever. If you ask England about why his nose is slightly crooked, he has no idea what you're talking about and it must just be the light in here.
It was possibly the most satisfying crunch of France's life.

Date: 2009-10-13 06:39 pm (UTC)The portrait itself is sublime due to the brows, the hair, the green of his eyes and above all else the expression. Not many would actively try to get past that expression.(France and America come to mind)

Date: 2009-10-13 06:53 pm (UTC)OSCAR WAS MY FAVORITE SESAME STREET CHARACTER! =D
I'm really glad you like the picture! I was just messing around, not really meaning to start anything, when I got his expression to come out JUST LIKE THAT in my sketch. And I was like "Well goddamn I guess I'm drawing England, now."

Date: 2009-10-14 01:20 am (UTC)It's really a portrait of England's Disapproval. England is just the medium.

Date: 2009-10-13 07:57 pm (UTC)1. The realistic look you bestow when you render these characters. It's just so cool. And as always, in love with the hair, even if he needs it cut.
2. Somewhere between the scowl and the brows and the color scheme, I'm getting a total English vibe.
3. Your headcanon. Satisfying crunch, indeed!
4. His eyes. Good god, I am in love with his eyes. All this muted grey and black, and then his eyes. They're just gorgeous. I keep scrolling back up the page to catch a glimpse of them.
And he's about a second away from saying "Bah, humbug!" isn't he.

It's all the foggy greys and blues. Every Regency film ever made uses a filter like that as soon as the characters go out for their requisite Tense Walk on a Misty Day.
And he's about a second away from saying "Bah, humbug!" isn't he.
I think of that as more or less England's ongoing state.

Also. Adopting new headcanon now~.

Date: 2009-10-14 01:33 am (UTC)AS MUCH AS I TRY.
I can't quite stop finding something terribly romantic about England. *sigh* Or his ~intense green eyes.~
(no subject)
Date: 2009-10-13 10:45 pm (UTC)That's what you get for burning people's girlfriends at the stake England!
And this is so incredibly gorgeous! The problem I have with so many England fanarts is that they make him little and cute. In yours, I can see both his 'human age' and a sense of more than that. I love the intensity to him - he's quite handsome despite those eyebrows, and looks like the gentleman, but looking at him you really get the feeling he has his darker punk/piratey side as well.
It really is just perfect! Will you be doing others? I hope so. I would love to see more! (Edit: That is, you have done more. Do you plan to continue doing them on occasion?)

Date: 2009-10-13 11:19 pm (UTC)Your head canon fits nicely with my head canon of this time...mind if I adopt it? XD
I've always thought that after Joan died, France acted weird around England for a long while....(Basically, because I think that when they're fighting France is just jokey-dickish and England angry-dickish) but after she died, France was just dead serious and all cold for a long while, throwing England off guard quite a bit. Is that a weird head-canon? XD
And of course may I just say WHY ARE YOU SO TALENTED DAMN YOU. DAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNN YOUUUUUUU WHO DO I HAVE TO KILL AROUND HERE TO BE A GOOD WRITER *AND* A GOOD ARTIST OF EPIC PROPORTIONS LIKE YOU.
Man, you're my idol. *sob*

Date: 2009-10-14 01:44 am (UTC)They're precious, ain't they? XD I don't even know if I can be said to "ship it," because I don't necessarily see it as romantic or sexual, but I think their relationship is fascinating.

Who embodied the great British virtues of, ah...a number! A number of very fine British virtues! Ohhh, that's what the world needs more of today, men of excellence, like Lord, ah...Lord...*CLEARthroat, ah, yes, but do listen to me go on, would you like to sit down? Maybe some tea?*
And so England always keeps his portrait on the wall, to remind him of...ah...something.
