France has always been more anxious about his national identity (England tends to be more "hmm." about it, being multi-cultural and the UK in a way).

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I started writing this--England's not exactly unconcerned about it, not anywhere near the extent America is (who's all "what cultural identity? Man, if somebody else has a better idea, cram it in here and let's see if it works!"), but I really liked the idea of England being supportive to very-touchy-in-this-respect France.
