I'd like to help!

Okay, so you don't have to absolutely, 100% OTP them, but no wishy washy, "Oh, Denmark and Liechtenstein, I bet that'd be funny" kinda ships, okay? I mean the ships that you really love, and think have a lot of merit, and it kills you that you can't find anything for them in fandom. I want to write something for them!

So here's what you do:

Tell me the pairing. Since it's a rare pair, I might not have any idea why anybody would ship that, so explain why you ship it. ("They look cute together" does not help me. Find an artist instead. XD) Then give me a couple prompts for them. Actually, wait, I'm going to give that its own line since people seem to be overlooking it:

Give me prompts for them. Like, 1-3 prompts. I'd like to see PG-13 prompts, if you don't mind; smut might happen, but I don't like to commit to it.

In a week (so, at the end of the CMC Event at the [livejournal.com profile] russiamerica comm, which is going to be kicking my ass until it's over) I'll pick three pairings and write stories for them! Selection will be based on which pairings/prompts I think would be the most fun to write about (what? I'm the one who's got to write it, leave me alone), and which are the most underrepresented in fandom. Also, if you have an outstanding request credit with me (from the reverse request meme or my ancient, ancient request thread--no I haven't forgotten about that), then I'm gonna treat this as your fill. XD

Gimme your best shot!

I don't...OTP any rare pairings...I mean, Russia/America used to be rare. I don't know what the hell happened. Not that I'm complaining...

This is such a wicked idea, though!

I am the weirdest person on the planet, because I *adore* the idea of Spain/Belarius pairing. I got turned on to it by a kink meme drabble, but it really struck at my heart strings.

I think it would work because Spain has a soft spot for weak people with rough/frigid demeanors, and Belarius is really looking for the warm, unconditional love from her childhood (which is why I think she pursues Ivan so much, she thinks she can bring back those sunflower days). Spain wants to be needed, and Belarius wants to feel loved in a tender manner...oh they would be so interesting together!

Not to mention (all fluff aside) that they both have that tough, violent side that would make for awesome sparks and heat *gleeshiver*

Personally I ship Germany/England. It's a little hard to explain why; it's kind of similar to England/Japan in my eyes in an "I'm lonely and you're lonely, but together we're lonely together" way. In another way, it's cute/funny/intriguing (None of these are the word I want, but I can't think of the right one) to put the two "straight men" in biggest OTPs together. They're too similar not to put together in my mind, even taking their whole histories into account...now that I'm thinking about it, an apology fic would be really interesting to see. Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm also a German British Isles mutt, and these two have been my favorite countries my whole life.

(I really like this new layout, by the way. The font looks fine.)

Ooh, this sounds like a blast, Pyrrhic!

Okay, so, I adore Cuba/Canada-which is all too rare in this fandom-and I'd really adore seeing it in your amazing writing!

Why ship it? Well, there's historical basis for this, actually. Canada was one of the few western hemisphere countries that didn't stop talking to Cuba after the 1959 revolution and they have a long history of trade (they were already trafficking in fish for rum/sugar back in the 1700s). And Canada so often gets stuck with the whole wimpy/invisible/overshadowed schtick in this fandom that I'd love to see him interact with someone who's acknowledging his existence as an equal and who's definitely able to tell him apart from his brother and who appreciates his quirks. Cuba himself has a very rich history and subsequently I see him as a character with a very colorful personality-he totally doesn't get enough love in this fandom-and I think he and Canada would make a great study in contrasts (Cuba's pretty blunt and Canada's got a passive/aggressive side, after all). And aside from all the above reasoning, they'd also be kinda hot together and, hey, it's kinda the 'other' Cold War pairing, imo (not to mention the potential for lol-worthy hypocritical comments from the peanut gallery coughamericaandrussicough).

Prompts?
(I'm not good at predicting a particular rating to these, so let's pretend they could all go PG-13-ish)

Fisrt Face-to-face meeting? 'Cause even though Canada's been trading with him for a long time, I don't think he met Cuba in person 'til more recently (I'm thinking they had a really long term correspondence going on before that. Pen-pals, anyone?)

This relationship from another nation's perspective (shameless stealing of prompt from russiamerica cmc fest-I just really like this idea!). As mentioned, America is in a position to make some hilarious and hypocritical commentary, or I think Spain would have a really unique take on them, too, as Cuba's historical 'parent nation'.

Canada attempting to introduce Cuba to snow sports? Silly and fluffy, I know, but I find the idea of a tropical nation attempting to cope with large quantities of snow for the first time really entertaining (high lol-potential).

So, that's enough of that. I'll shut up now, shall I ;)
*runs off to study for test*

Have fun ♥

XD I'm from a snowy climate myself, and I imported my husband who had never seen snow before in his life (he's an Aussie) to New England for a winter...I thought it was hilarious. Poland/Canada/Poland.
Why do I ship it?
7 words: Are you there God? it's me, Canada. Which can be found here: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/3274.html?thread=3701194

Oh god, I need fic for these so badly, I'd draw fanart for you right now if you say you need it for inspiration.

Basically, the pairing is based on the character's personality, rather than actual history together. Sure, Canada helped Poland in WW2, but the pairing is more focused on Poland's extrovert personality versus Canada's introvert. Poland's seen and been though a lot of tough shit, yet he always comes out on top, happy and proud to be himself (in all his crossdressing glory XD). Canada can always learn a thing or two about confidence from him. Anything with Poland being his usual glorious, lyke, totally awesome self in contrast to Canada's quiet nature.

Fic's I'd love to see are um, I guess Slice of Life type fics. Baking cupcakes, going to the movies, taking a walk in the park, or going to the mall. Anything that allows Canada to go "FML, why do I hang out with people like this...". Like, where he's embaressed to be around Polands uber extrovertism. I mean, COMON, Poland like, TOTALLY has the right to do anything he wants when he wants, and that includes while wearing a pink pleated skirt and red sling backs.

I would have requested some rare Greece/Japan Slice of Life that doesn't involve Japan or Greece having a fetish for cat ears. However, even I don't know why they're shipped together... I assume some shared history I am currently unaware of XD

...is Turkey/Greece a rare pairing? I know there's stuff for it, it isn't crack per-say, but I think I've gone months without seeing anything for the pairing, even something with them not as a romantic item but old rivals, begrudging friends with benefits, surly neighbors, etc... Talk about sexual tension; four wars against one another? Really, guys, really? There's a ton of history between the two of them--not all of it good; hell, most of it not good--especially if you want to drag it all the way back to the days of the Ottoman Empire and ancient Greece since we don't know when Mama Greece fell. And oh! Mama Greece just adds a whole 'nother dimension to it. How did she die? How did she feel if she had to leave her son in Turkey's care? But then after all that bad blood, there's the recent earthquakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek-Turkish_earthquake_diplomacy) and how they brought Turkey and Greece close together; it's touching.

Honestly, their relationship reminds me of the oldness FrUK has with that good ol' fashioned "If someone's going to kick you when you're down, it's going to be me, jackass" along with a long list of rotten scars given to one another. Depending on how far back you want to go, the relationship between Greece and Ottoman Empire!Turkey has a hell of a lot more punches left unpulled and sometimes a meanness that's as real as Joan of Arc burning at the stake. But after all that, things are starting to get better, because maybe there's no one else who knows Greece as well as Turkey, and vice versa.

Also: As soon as I revved up the Sims 3, it was both Greece and Turkey's momentary life goal to woo-hoo one another. I shit you not. (It was right after Turkey slapped Canada for no reason, I'm not sure if that has any bearings on the woo-hoo but...) How can anyone ignore the science of that, I ask? Need I get out my bunsen burners and start burning some bunsen? I say nay.

In conclusion, I am a nerd, and Turkey/Greece is a pairing that's love-struck. By a bus.

...filled with broken glass.

Spain/Canada.

I will admit, it started out with an "Oh, they would look cute together," but then it grew into more for me.

Personality-wise, I think Spain would be the type who'd make Canada feel as if he is remembered by someone, and would be able to give him the passion and love he wants. Canada wouldn't mind Spain's oblivious nature, having grown up with a brother like America, and would most likely find Spain's love of all things cute adorable. Plus, as much as I love Spain/Romano, I think Canada would be more open about his feelings, and less violent towards Spain.

My love of the pairing was based solely on how cute they'd look together, and their personalities. I was flabbergasted to find out that there's actually a little bit of history behind them, too. Spain is the one who first traveled and documented Canada's west coast, specifically British Colombia. Then, Spain and Britain nearly went to war over who had the right to western Canada. Unfortunately, Britain was backed by Prussia, and though Spain's claim dated further back, their military was weak and they had to give Canada up without much of a fight at all. When I found this out, my personal head canon evolved into teenage Canada hanging out with Spain (since this all took place in 1789), and missing him when he was forced to leave by England and Prussia.

Prompts if you're interested?
1. First meeting after the Spanish left Nootka Sound (which is where the almost-war took place).
2. France being the one to play a not-quite-secret match-maker and get them together, with neither realizing what he's up to.
3. Spain is the only one to remember Canada's birthday on the right day (again, personal head canon states that England is pretty much inebriated during the first week of July and Canada gets a lot of belated birthday wishes) and surprises him with something sweet.

P.S. It looks normal to me. Could it be their browser, maybe?

This pairing has gotten a lot less rare of late, but I really support Prussia/Canada. I used to avoid it because I wasn't interested in pairings with nations that didn't have a lot of history. Then I wrote it for a friend and realized how well it worked.

Firstly, I don't think it would take a lot for the two of them to notice eachother. In my headcannon, Prussia only goes to world meetings when free lunch is involved, and when he does, he doesn't pay attention. At said meetings, Canada uses his invisible powers to keep up a running commentary on the idiocy around him without fear of consequence. Eventually, Prussia would catch on to this and find it hilarious and adorable. And we all know Prussia has a secret affinity for cute things (read: Gilbird).

Secondly, I think their relationship would actually be healthy. Prussia has a lot of baggage and has been through some pretty hellish relationships and periods in history. Canada would not only look past that, but is kindhearted and intelligent enough to help him deal without making him feel weak. Prussia wouldn't mind trusting Canada because unlike many of the other nations, he knows whatever he says won't be used as a weapon later. Canada would benefit from the fact that Prussia could teach him to overcome a lot of self doubt and pretty much drive him into the spotlight. I think they'd give each other a well-deserved reprieve from the rest of the world. Their personalities might clash at first (I think in the beginning Prussia would just be out from something new and be dismayed that Canada isn't as easy as he'd hoped) but eventually they'd mesh and they'd garner eachother's respect.

So yeah. That's my rap :D I'm writing a fic with these two, which you can find in my fic directory if your want more background...

Prompts:

-Prussia taking Canada out to do something dare-devilish. Or like paintball or something. Just something really active that would teach Canada a new comfort zone.

-The two of them discussing the most bitter points in their histories; basically share and care.

-At Thanksgiving with America/Russia, England/France, and Germany/Italy.

This is a really fun idea :D

Question

From: [identity profile] dunsanyrdr.livejournal.com
Does this pairing have to be between nations that have already been featured in the manga or anime? Or can we give you pairings of countries for which we have our own headcanon personifications?

I'm not suggesting that you do something like, say, CambodiaxThailand, where you'd really have nothing to go on but someone else's idea, but would it be all right to pair a featured nation with an unfeatured one? That way you'd at least have something solid to develop half of the relationship. I can affirm my own willingness to supply the personality and idiosyncrasies of the unfeatured nation of my choice, and I'm certain your other supplicants would as well.

I will happily tell you the pairing I have in mind upon your answer, regardless of what it is.

If you actually care to know.

I don't mean to seem presumptuous.

Denmark/Sweden.

I ship this pair so hard it hurts seeing all the Denmark/Norway and Su/Fun out there OTL. If I could find more DenSu in the world I would be a much happier person. I absolutely adore the historical accuracy of this pairing and all the tension of their relationship; from fighting, acting like stupid brothers to each other, betrayal and rivalry (but they always seem to make up in the end!).

Prompts? Viking era, Denmark's rule in the Kalmar Union, and hey--since I know you love some Russia--how about the Great Northern War when Sweden was toppled by an alliance with Russia, Denmark, Norway, etc and Russia turned into a new superpower in the Baltic Sea.

I... guess I don't really have any rare OTPs. Or any strong OTPs at all, really XD Which seems a shame, somehow. I should adopt a few. But this is too good to pass up, so I'll go with Prussia/Poland. It's rare, and it's what I'd most want to see you do.

1) So we know little Teutonic Knight Prussia has an outstanding track record with figuring out genders (~Hungary, yeah?). So, my personal headcanon: the first time Poland and Prussia meet -- well. You know. Of course, he gets it wrong yet again...
2) Clothes. (The skirts, the leather... I mean, seriously.)
3) Aaand I'm not sure about a third one. How about them actually teaming up for something? Random shenanigans, board game night in the Soviet Union, playing pranks on Austria, something like that. Whatever, it's up to you! :)

W-well, although this whole thing makes me a happy person and the prospect of possible DeSu, Cuba/Canada and others sounds very awesome, I'm going to be weird and say that a pair I'm quite fond of is Lithuania/Latvia.

Obviously they have lots of history, and have gone through similar things, but somehow, however much I like Estonia/Latvia, I think that these two would be closer. Did you know that Lithuanian and Latvian share quite a lot in common, coming from the same family, but Estonian doesn't share much at all? Estonian originates from the Finno-Ugric family, while the first two come from the Indo-European family.
Plus, they aren't brothers. ^ ^ It said so in the comics~

So... That's my argument. It's not really very much compared to everyone else, is it...

If you do, by some miracle, choose this pairing, I think it would be cute if they went to a theme park, or went to see a film. ^ ^
Or if a more historical prompt would be better, taking part in the Baltic way~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Way

In a historical sense, I ship Turkey/France really damn hard -- and it's probably my fault there isn't any that has been written yet, because it's a weird little bit of history in the fifteenth century and if I want Turkey&France vs. Austria&Hungary with vague intimations of OT4-ing, I should really write it myself.

... on the slightly more feasible side, why is there not scads of France/Russia?

Or scads of France/Vietnam that isn't ... sappy?

Man what's weird about Turkey/France? Even aside from all the crusading business, they were traditional allies for just ages and France totally blew off Russia on behalf of Turkey around the turn of the 18th century, it was epic. And Russia still adopted French as the language of his courts and nursed his crush from afar for like fifty years until Voltaire came along and--yeah why isn't there fic about all this?

I am sort of convinced that anybody who doesn't ship France/Russia just hasn't cracked a history book, like, ever, to the extent that I'm always astonished to remember that it is, in fact, a rare pairing. Surely there must be reams of it floating around and I just haven't noticed it yet!

Imperialistic France is also underdone in regards to anybody except Canada, which like, really, barely even registers on my internal scale of Imperial Dick Moves. I just don't have any sense of Vietnam's personality, so.

nah, the layout looks good~!

Well, my rare OTPs are Portugal/Spain, Brasil/India and Denmark/Sweden (if one of the fics feature this pairing, I'll die of happiness, just sayin') there are others, but it'd bore you, however, I'll request Portugal/Spain~! (or Spain/Portugal, whatever)

Well, Portugal and Spain pretty much have a lot of story together, from the Tordesilla's Treaty 'till the Iberian Union and so on, so there's a lot of historical background to cover. However, I can only seem to find England/Portugal, which makes me really sad...*pouts* I mean, sure, Portugal and England have a lot of 'BFFness', but it doesn't feel right...
I'd like to see something about the end of the Iberian Union, or during the time their colonies were getting their independence, though, so, think about it, yes?

I think the only real rarepair I'm intrigued by is Poland and Prussia. In the beginning Prussia was just this pagan Baltic tribe who a polish lord requested aid in dealing with and the result was the Teutonic Knights. Bad idea. The alliance and union between Poland and Lithuania comes about in large part is because of the Teutonic Knights. As time moves on they take turns partitioning each other among other nasty things.

The Cold War is one of the few times where they're equals with a common foe but they have this mountain of history that dwarfs Everest. In the end Poland is his own country while Prussia is either a memory or the less well-to-do part of Germany. I enjoy Prussia's interaction with Hungary and Austria but he's shared a much longer history with Poland. With Prussia, Poland has been both the ruler and the ruled. Their relationship, romantic or platonic, could contain themes of pride, control, independance, fortune, decline, change, identity, survival and mortality. Really they deserve their own series.

This is a pairing that could inspire fabulous, awesome crack but what I'm hungry for is a serious conversation between the two. Time period? TCE has made me partial to the Cold War; the partition period when Prussia was trying to Germanize Poland would also be interesting. Or maybe the prime of the PLC; I'd particularly like to see Prussia's opinions Poland's relationship with Lithuania. Really I'm so desperate for something on them that any time period would do.

I ship S.Italy/S.Korea. I'm not sure why, exactly, but I ship it hard. It might be because they're both the south pieces of a country, that they've both been/are seperated from their sibling, their love of noodles (At least, I'm pretty positive Romano likes pasta, right? We've never seen him eat it...), the culture clash, IDK. And I've only ever thought of Spain/Romano as a friendship. (Or that Spain lost interest after Romano hit puberty. XD)

But they're just so different, and their personalities so interesting together, in my mind. Korea, cheerful as child, and Romano, so tsundere, and so like a classic shounen pairing. (Am I the only who sees that? XD)

I've only seen one fanfic with them, but....XD. It was about the fact that during the Korean War, Italy sent medical staff to help South Korea. It was so sweet.

But, as I mentioned before, I like the idea of them relating over their siblings, but that's so sad, so If I had to say a prompt, I would want S.Italy having to hang out with Korea under orders from his boss to help relations, (Although they already have embassys in each other's countries) and them just learning about each others cultures and somehow getting along. XD Any other idea is fine by me. Oh! And, for some reason, I want to see Korea teaching Romano on how to play video games and why he likes them so much. XD Maybe Pokemon?

North Italy/Belarus. Because it's cute and my sims game turned me onto it and I also blame an RP I'm in.

Basically, I can see it actually working. Italy would be all "Hey pretty lady do you like pasta? ♥" and Belarus would be all "..." about it. While she would be all scary at first, and Italy would be scared because he's not an idiot despite fanon, I can also see him kind of stubbornly insisting on seeing her and trying to make her feel better, because her brother is always pushing her away and she's a pretty girl, and he's Italian, so he can't have a pretty girl sad.

So he's very determined to prove to the world that she's a girl and is a sweet one, Belarus having no idea how to respond to all this positive affection and just being tsundere in general because someone isn't running away, what, and the rest of the world going "Watch out Italy she has a knife!" Oddly enough, I hate Belarus being characterized as a knife-happy psycho that Russia is always scared of, because he's obviously not, he chats to her about his chair (Canada) for heaven's sake in one strip.

Basically, Italy would be his flirty self, determined to treat her like a normal girl, and something happens. IDK. Romano also quietly has an aneurysm in the background because holy fuck now his brother has picked someone worse than the potato bastard. It's one of those pairings where I was like "I ship it now because it's cute" and the more I thought about it...the more I think it could work. I also ship Denmark/Belarus, but that's entirely Taming of the Shrew it's not funny.

SO. Uh. Prompts.

N.Italy giving Belarus cooking lessons (for pizza and pasta of course) so that she can be a better "wife" for Russia, all the while flirting with her.
--
Italy is also apparently chatting up Belarus with EU relations and economic and education policies. (http://www.esteri.it/MAE/EN/Sala_Stampa/ArchivioNotizie/Approfondimenti/2009/09/20090930_Frattini_aMinsk.htm) Roll with it?

I'm...out of prompts for right now, because I'm terrible with prompts. D: -fails-

France/America?

One of America's first allies was France but there's so much more that for some reason doesn't come up in fics that often. For example, America's odd tsundereness over France and french things in general. A lot of American movies (and kind of just our culture I guess) place Paris as the place to go for romance/honeymoons. We also have "french" toast and "french" fries, regardless of actual frenchness. But then we totally half-see French people as total douchbags sometimes and we even renamed our fries to "freedom fries" just because France wasn't super supportive of our decision to go to Iraq. When we don't see France as a suave, gentlemanly sexpot, he is a condescending d-bag (though still a sexpot).

Oh, and Sarkozy has seriously been trying to BFF it up with Obama lately too.

possible prompts:
-PDAs~ A lot of American school systems have rules against PDAs (public displays of affection), and I'd love to see France totally ignoring them to get Alfred in trouble. Or pretty much any rule breakage to achieve his goal of being a dick.
-French trysts~ The movie "Unfaithful" has a lady cheating on her husband with a pretty french man until her husband beats the frenchman with a snowglobe. It kinda makes me lol when I think about it.
-Mardi Gras in New Orleans together~ France seeing America's french side and then partying it up

I can't believe you're offering to do a rarepair fic! Your writing is so gooooood~ Whichever pairings you pick will be lucky!

NOTE: Ukraine is my fandom bicycle, because I love her and she has been punted on throughout basically her entire existence and I think she deserves some love.

POLAND/UKRAINE ☆ IRL BFFs right now, hosting the Euro2012 football championship (which she nearly couldn't afford, but she's been working hard!) and generally I think that while he used to be one of the ones to kick her around, after that he spent the rest of history getting kicked around himself, so I think sometime after WWII they both just kind of went GRUDGES...ARE USELESS NOW. So they've bonded over being pounded into the ground, and Poland probably wants to give her lessons on how to be totally cooler.

DENMARK/UKRAINE ☆ Romantically/sexually? Purely aesthetic. They're both very attractive characters. But they do actually have a history, as the original Rus' were Danish (or according to some sources, Danish&Swedish) Vikings who came, saw, and decided the Ukrainian steppes were a pretty sweet place to settle down and raise families. So for several hundred years, Denmark raised little Kyivan Rus' Ukraine and her siblings until he left to check on things back home and the Mongols came and beat on/scattered the siblings. I imagine he'd hold a sort of half-familial older-brother attitude towards her, but at the same time be unable to deny that man, she's really hot now.

PRUSSIA/UKRAINE ☆ SUP RELUCTANTLY-SOVIET BUDDIES. (http://aphanon-meme.livejournal.com/1746.html?thread=12389586#t12389586) Besides the Soviet Union, no real history that I can point to, but Prussia canonically has A Thing for Quivering Cuteness (see: baby birds, Latvias, Italys.) And Ukraine can be fairly Quiveringly Cute.

CANADA/UKRAINE ☆ which probably isn't a rarepair these days, but hey. They have the history (in b4 the oft-linked Wikipedia article) and not only that, their personalities and histories just mesh so nicely. The constantly-ignored siblings (because really, if Ukraine wasn't racked, would anyone in this fandom really notice her? Belarus gets all the attention because she's crazy lulz, Ukraine is just getting dragged into messes,) always being put-upon, having to clean up after America and Russia and Belarus, and even when Canada wasn't his own country, he opened himself to the fragments of Ukraine that needed to escape, and offered them safety, something that Ukraine probably hadn't truly had in centuries. As such, she gave him the attention that Canada seems to need (Canada da yo!!) and is probably one of the only nations besides France who can tell the difference between the twins.

tl;dr: It's cute and they're sweet together, and god, it's about as canon as things get without an actual personal union like Austria and Hungary.

AND because this was too long(?!) for one comment.

ONE-SIDED DENMARKFINLAND ☆ which might not count as rare since there's a comm with that as part of it, but I don't pay attention to it and I don't think my particular headcanon has come up there.

Even though Finland mentioned not being able to stand Denmark, in the Running Away With Su-san strips, Denmark didn't actually do much with him. Most of his fucking around was with Sweden and Norway. The only reason Finland was even there was because Sweden was the only one brave enough to face the woods and the ice and the pagans and take over. The Danes pretty much actively feared the Finns and their shamans with their wind magic that could sink any ship. So Denmark? Never touched him. I imagine that these days, though Denmark's settled down, he'd still have that lingering desire to dominate him, because he never did. He had almost all of them, but it was Sweden who got that piece, and Denmark is still after all so loving and open and possessive. He didn't quite get to own all of the Nordics, and he still wants it.

tl;dr: Denmark wants to dominate Finland because he didn't get to back when he was King of Scandinavia. Bonus, it'd piss Sweden off.

AMERICA/BELARUS ☆ It's canon, even mentioned in the Hetalia strips, that after the Curtain fell Belarus went to hang with America as sort of his new annoying little sister. But considering his hero complex, I imagine that he would still want to "save" her, like he tried to do by meddling in her government more than she liked.

PRUSSIA/BELGIUM ☆ I admit, my entire basis for this pairing is what I feel must have been overwhelming guilt that Prussia felt after Germany betrayed him and betrayed Belgium's trust in Prussia by invading and raping her. Plus she makes over eight hundred different kinds of beer. She is the perfect woman.

I ALWAYS like rare pairings, and I don't know why. Perhaps because I always like the character most people prefer as the top as the bottom instead? In this case, I'll read just about anything with America bottoming. I like America as the bottom because it allows more of the sides he hides to come out, his seriousness and intelligence and caring, and even his playfulness.

But you asked about OTPs. For me, there's France/America. That's not really an One-True-Pairing, because I see them with others as well. But I honestly feel there's a bond and a history there that's too often overlooked. France's contribution to the exploration and settlement of the America's extended well beyond Canada after all - French Louisiana covered most of the mid-west! Then there is the fact that France was America's first ally of course. He not only helped America win the war, but America's declaration was influenced by France's philosophers in the first place, and then France was in turn influenced by America. (Not to mention America's boycrush on Lafayette, and France's on Benjamin Franklin!)

After that we have the Quasi-War. I find it significant that America wouldn't enter another alliance until 1959. The failure of that first one certainly left it's mark on him! Still, there's the Louisiana Purchase, the Statue of Liberty (best b-day gift ever), and America's participation in WWI with the famous "Lafayette, we are here" line. There's the entire 1920s, where a generation of adrift Americans found a home of sorts in Paris, and Paris welcomed them. There is the entire fashion industry, Paris and 5th Avenue both competing and playing off of each other. There is the wine industry - no one expected wine from California to compete with the French vintages, but it did.

America is so often compared to England and Canada to France, but as someone at [profile] a_moveablefeast pointed out, it's the other way around just as much. Canada has a steadfastness that he got from England, while America's playfulness and willingness to go his own way without needing others' approval is definitly a trait he shares from France. The two of them seem healthy together - a trait which is rare in slash pairings.

:P:P All that said, so far as One-True-Pairing, I also adore Canada/America. I have a thing for twins, and that pairing has geography working for it! Shared land and the longest shared border in the world, a culture that is very much shared, an interdependency on each other. Slashy or not, Canada and America certainly share a bond with each other different and unique from what they share with other nations. There's a lot that can be done with that.

And, honestly, it's hot! See? (http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs33/f/2008/308/2/8/APH__Canada_x_America_by_blaudrache.jpg)

So, um, in the interest of being fair, I suppose I'll just give prompts for France/America (unless you'd like them for both). So:

1. Fashion!! (be it modern or historical)
2. Cajun
3. the Quasi-War -- be it the steps leading to it, or the after-effects of the break-up

fear the continuing babble

Now that I'm not longer running late for school...

Other pairings I like that I'm not AH~! over but still enjoy:

Spain/America - For the history, for the lulz, for the Spanish kink, and for the horses. Mainly for the Spanish kink and the horses. Oh, and for Hemingway and Jake Barnes of course.

Greece/Japan - KITTIES! ♥ And really, for many of the same reasons I love France/America. It's a sort of quiet, happy, relationship, filled with lots of warm fuzzies and cats. Not sure if this really counts as a rare pairing though. (Not sure if Canada/America is rare either, save for maybe in that order.)

I think I might have touched on this with you before, buuut...

GERMANY/AMERICA

Not only do I think that the chemistry between these two would be interesting to watch in action, I wonder about stuff like Post-WWII Germany, and the totally awesome fic you wrote with the Berlin Airlift how he's down, totally beat, he'll never be able - or want to, out of fear it'll happen again - forget the things he's done, but he's trying to make things right, and America comes in and helps him out like he does...and it's just...the actual nation known as Germany is...well, I'd like to think it started with the German Empire, and I don't think the HRE was dissolved until after...the American Revolution? Y/N? Germ and 'Merica just strike me as two of the younger adult nations still doing their thing.

...Um...did any of this make sense??
